Picture made in Venice earlier this year.
My old fencing master once said a fencing bout is a matter of forcing your game on the opponent or not allowing him to force his game on you.
Working in Venice (and the Tower of London) put me in mind of this. Photographing such an over-photographed place becomes a struggle between the photographer and the subject matter. You question yourself, will I be able to make my images or will the location overwhelm me with the weight of the photographs that came before. Or will I be able to find something in-between?
