Skin deep garden

Robert barker - RHS Chelsea Flower Show (2018)

Skin Deep is a conceptual garden created by Robert Barker for an established UK skin care company as part of the 2018 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The garden uses a large number of concrete blocks to represent the individual physical differences of a seemingly uniformed group. Each one represents a different skin variation or condition that could affect any one of us over a lifetime. The plants used have been chosen for their form and texture to reflect even wider variations of an individuals skin and physical identity.

Skin Deep won a Silver-gilt Medal at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2018.

"Skin Deep. The most controversial garden at  RHS Chelsea this year, and to my mind one of the best. The tactile textures on the concrete blocks are taken from an assortment of skin conditions. Soothing, calm and reflective. A brave and beautiful garden."
